RISC OS

What on earth is a RISC OS computer?
Acorn released their first computer for the home market in 1980, just about the same time as IBM representatives were meeting Bill Gates to talk about writing an operating system (DOS) for IBM's new hush-hush "personal computer."
Several computers later in April 1989 (about a year before the launch of Windows 3.0) Acorn introduced its modern style RISC OS graphical user interface: a WIMP* multitasking system which became very popular in the UK and elsewhere (especially in schools).
While RISC OS has failed to reach today's market as a popular general purpose operating system it still has a solid following. Computers using this advanced and highly competent operating system are still being developed and sold today.

How can I run the RISC OS software on this site if I have a Windows PC?
Rather than buying another computer you can get an excellent emulator called
Virtual A5000.
The Copernicus and Orion programs on this site run well in Virtual A5000.

What other RISC OS software is available?
There are thousands of RISCOS programs.
A good place to start is
ROAST (RISC OS Astronomy).
